Bar Americano was opened by Matthew Bax in 2011 as homage to the Golden Age of drinking, the time of the "American Bar". The drinks of the "American bar" are the USA's greatest cultural export. The concept was born out of foreign demand; well-heeled Europeans discovered these liquid delights in the Jazz cities of Chicago and New York. They (along with the thirsty Yanks fleeing the drought of Prohibition) cried out for these innovative concoctions back in Europe. The "American Bar" is the perfect balance of American "get-up-n-go" and refined European service.
We unashamedly only serve classic cocktails. No, an espresso martini is not a classic. Our section changes each week to reflect seasonality and whim. We stock our bar according to the menu so please understand if your non-menu selection is not available. We offer two natural Italian wines each week. Giorgio de Maria curates our selection. FOOD & APERITIVO?
We celebrate the Italian tradition of Aperitivo, offering small, delicious Mediterranean snacks and antipasti to accompany our drink selection. Aperitivo hour kicks off at 6pm each night and once it's gone, its gone. As the old saying goes "The early bird gets the negroni and Parmigiano-Reggiano"
We take our coffee as seriously as any of our cocktails. We are proud to have simply the finest espresso machine ever created, the "Slayer". We work closely with our partners at Coffee Supreme to bring justice to this marvel of modern engineering.

Bar Americano was the first standing room only venue in Australia. When you visit us, you will understand why.
NO BOOKINGS AND WAITING LIST?
Given our broom cupboard dimensions, walk ins only but if we are full, just give your number to our staff through the window and we will text you when we have space. The bar concept is designed for quick turnover, so wait times are never excessive.
Being a tiny venue, our patrons' privacy is extremely important. So we ask if you can refrain from taking photographs. If you are interested in a photo of a drink or the venue, please just ask, as we are happy to provide you with a professional press image.
We have been very fortunate in our short history to have won multiple national awards including Best Cocktail bar, Best Cocktail Menu and Best Bartender.
We are open Monday to Saturday from 5pm until 1am.

WHO IS MATTHEW BAX?
Is an artist and ex-accountant who created the internationally renowned Der Raum (2001, Richmond) and Tippling Club (2008, Singapore). Gamsei (2013, Munich) and Bar Economico (2013) Bar Exubernate (2015), and the Matcha bar concept SAMU (2016).
